Montgomery Knolls Lawn Care Programs
Recommended Program (This 7 step program may vary according to your lawns needs and when you activate your service.)
1. Early spring: We apply a long lasting pre-emergent weed and crabgrass preventor to stop the enemy before they get started. Along with the pre-emergent we apply a balanced slow release fertilizer to give your lawn a jump start for the spring. Unfortunately we can not spray any weeds at this time because it is too cold but we will get them on the next visit.
2. Spring: We apply an additional pre-emergent treatment to continue the battle against weeds and crabgrass. Now we can spot spray those pesky winter weeds because the temperature is warm enough for the treatment to be effective. In addition to the weed controls we apply a balanced slow release fertilizer to promote turf color and growth.
3. Summer: We will spot spray any new weeds we can find and apply a balanced slow release fertilizer to maintain your lawns density and color.
4. Grub control: This is a preventive treatment to reduce the grub population in your lawn. Grubs can severely damage your lawn by eating away the root system of the turf. The grubs will than turn into Japanese Beatles which attack your plants in your landscape. We combine this treatment with our summer application to make sure we get the grubs early.
5. Fall: We will apply a post-emergent to knock down those stubborn weeds and apply a balanced slow release fertilizer to maintain the lawns color, density, growth and to promote root development. This application is critical for preparing your lawn for the fall seeding season.
6. Late Fall: We will apply a balanced slow release fertilizer to maintain the lawns color and to encourage root development through out the winter. This application will give your newly seeded lawn a jump start for the spring.
7. Lime: Lime helps maintain a proper pH level in your lawn by neutralizing the acidity of the soil to resulting in a greener and healthy lawn with fewer weeds. If your soil PH is maintained incorrectly, your lawn will not fully utilize the potential of applied fertilizers. Most weeds love acidic soil having the proper pH is essential to keep the enemy out and your beautiful lawn. We will test your soil to find out what is needed.

We offer many variations of the above program. Your lawn consultant will help choose the right program for you. We also have special programs to meet any additional needs your lawn may have.
Aeration and over seeding
Core aeration is a critical step to a healthy lawn. Through out the year your lawn will become compacted and a layer of thatch will develop. This compaction and thatch blocks the essential elements: food, water, oxygen, and grass seed that your lawn needs. Aeration corrects this problem by pulling many small plugs of soil out of the lawn allowing the essential elements to get deep into the soil. No lawn care service in Maryland is complete without a yearly aeration and over seeding.
Benefits of Aeration and over seeding:
- Reduces soil compaction
- Allows food, water, and oxygen to get deeper in to the soil
- Helps decompose the thatch layer
- Improves root growth
- Increased seed germination through seed to soil contact
Disease Control
Lawn Diseases are caused by Fungus Spores growing out of control. This typically occurs when weather conditions are hot, humid and moist .The Blades of Green Disease Control Service will quickly put your lawn back on its way to recovery.
Total Renovation / Power Seeding
Total Renovation is also known as Slit Seeding. It is a mechanical seeding process that consists of a machine called a Turf Renovator, cutting a small groove into the ground. The Turf Renovator then places seed into the groove. This is the same process that a farmer would use to plant a field. Blades of Green will perform this process in two different directions so that your lawn will not achieve the "crop row" affect. This process is recommended to De-thatch older lawns that have been neglected and quickly will revive them!
Mole control
Blades of Green uses
a Mole Reduction product that is all natural and fully biodegradable
that will benefit your lawn. How does this product work? When
ingested, this product irritates the mole's digestive system. This
distress will drive the mole out of the treated area. With regular
treatments, this harmless product will help you get rid of these
nuisances!
