Termite Swarms: panic or….investigate or….call for help?

Choices! Spring time sure brings a lot of things to look out for! There are hundreds of insects that are fighting for their survival. Termites are wood destroying; as are carpenter bees! Every property has termites: the termites are eventually going to find your home.

If you see what appears to be flying ants anywhere near your home you had better get a closer look. If the wings of the ants that are in the massive cloud of ants (there could be several thousand) fall or pull off easily and if the bodies of the ants the ants are not pinched you probably have some termites looking for a nice new home! Unfortunately you already occupy the house and really do not want any more residents.

Do not panic but do not delay you really do need to contact a certified wood destroying insect-organism inspector. We are certified by the Maryland Pest Control Association. Please contact us for a free inspection and quote for the necessary work. Termites do take time to cause extensive damage. Just remember that if you do see swarms it really does mean that the "old home" is close by and the flying termites can't fly very far. These little creatures will set up a residence near your house and begin foraging for food: your house! Termites are classified as wood destroying insects; this term "wood destroying" should never be taken lightly. Please remember: swarmers (alates) are produced from mature colonies and that the mature colony is also wood destroying and that the object they are about to damage is your home. This is especially true if the termite swarmers are coming from under your steps, the patio or worse yet: your basement.

Contact us, we are trained and certified! Please do not try to handle the situation yourself! Termite queens lay eggs at an astonishingly high rate and will do so for up to 15 years (a potential for millions of termites!). Don’t be fooled and think that the termite swarm has disappeared and is gone: nope, they have found a home: YOURS!
